The city’s Mother’s Day Rose Giveaway

The Davis Center at Maides Park, 1101 Manly Ave., lists a Mother’s Day Rose Giveaway from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with light refreshments, on the city’s seasonal programs page. The city had not set the 2027 date when we checked. Call 910-341-7867.

Gift markets the day before

Saturday, May 8, is the last shopping day before Mother’s Day.

  • Riverfront Farmers Market, Dock Street between Second and Water streets downtown, Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Its 2026 season ran April 18 to Nov. 21, according to the market’s website.
  • Wilmington Farmers Market at Tidal Creek Co-op, 5329 Oleander Drive, every Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (details).
  • Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens, 224 Market St., holds a spring craft market with about 30 artists and artisans, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., free; dates are on its calendar.

Places to take Mom

  • Airlie Gardens, 300 Airlie Road: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., last entry 4:30 p.m.; $10, or $5 for New Hanover County residents with ID; tram rides from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., first come, first served (visitor page). Pets are not allowed.
  • Cape Fear Museum, 230 Grace St.: Sundays 1 to 5 p.m.; adults $16, youth 3 to 17 $10, with half off for New Hanover County residents (admission).
  • Battleship North Carolina, 1 Battleship Road: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; adults $14, seniors 65 and older $10 (visitor page).
  • The Riverwalk downtown, with street meters free all day Sunday, the city’s parking page says.
